Do you know how to make your home safe for your child? You may think of all the obvious dangers, but it is so important to check that your house is accident-proof for your child.
For most of us, the word “home” conjures feelings of safety, warmth, and security. The truth is, most accidents at home can be easily prevented, which is why it’s so important to take the necessary and often fairly simple measures to do so. This is especially the case for families with young children. The last thing you want is to be confronted with a dangerous situation and find that it is too late to do something about it.
Like many things, home safety begins with awareness. In this module we will go over the top home hazards, methods for cultivating a safer home, household toxins, and the dangers that children face
You will have to check every little nook and cranny and in your home and garden, that may look interesting from a child’s perspective. Children are naturally curious and it is normal for them to want to investigate the world around them, but we want them to be safe while they are at play.
As a parent you have to think like a detective and look for things that your child would like to discover. We suggest that you get down on your hands and knees and go through each room to see what their point of view, that we as adults may not have picked up. Can they reach up and pull things off shelves, are shelves secured to the wall ? Are the plugs covered, are chemicals stored high up on a shelf or locked away?
We discuss all the home safety measures in depth in the Online Baby and Child CPR and First Aid Course, along with narrated videos, or join us for a group course at a venue nearest to you.
Remember that a Baby and Child CPR and First Aid Course is a ‘must-have’ for parents and not ‘nice-to-have’!
